Hannah Smith is a contemporary painter based in Lancashire, England. Working primarily in acrylic, her practice explores embodied presence through figurative, animal, and landscape painting.

Her work is rooted in direct encounter. Each painting is made to hold its own coherence and authority, inviting a slower, more attentive way of seeing. Across different subjects, a consistent language remains: instinct, stillness, tension, and the quiet force of presence.

Travel, years spent living beside the ocean, and an enduring relationship with the landscape of Pendle have all shaped her visual language. The rhythms of water, weather, land, and shifting light inform the work atmospherically and compositionally, while her rootedness in England deepens its sense of place, memory, and lived experience.

Alongside her studio practice, Hannah works in coastal resilience science, modelling flood risk and habitat restoration. This engagement with environmental systems informs her sensitivity to threshold states, adaptation, and the dynamic forces that shape both landscape and lived experience.

She creates original paintings and fine art prints from her studio, and undertakes selected commissions aligned with her current body of work.
