About the artist
Hannah Smith is a contemporary painter based in Lancashire, England.
Working primarily in acrylic, her practice explores embodied perception through figurative, animal, and landscape painting.
Her work develops through direct engagement with the natural world. Each painting emerges through attention, intuition, and process, holding its own sense of coherence and stillness. Across subjects, a consistent language emerges: instinct, movement, quiet tension, and the subtle dynamics of presence.

Time spent near the ocean, travel, and an ongoing relationship with the landscape of Pendle have all shaped her visual language. The rhythms of water, weather, land, and shifting light inform both the atmosphere and composition of the work, reflecting an ongoing interest in how perception is shaped by dynamic natural systems and changing environments
Alongside her painting practice, Hannah has worked in coastal resilience science and habitat restoration, and with marine NGOs in Seychelles, Fiji, and Malaysia. She is a qualified PADI scuba diving instructor. This experience has developed a systems-based understanding of environmental processes, including threshold states, adaptation, and the interconnected forces that shape both ecological and human experience.
Rather than sitting apart from her art, this way of understanding systems continues to inform how she observes and translates the world through painting.
From her studio, she creates original paintings and fine art prints. Hannah also offers live wedding event painting, creating original works that capture the atmosphere and unfolding presence of a day as it is experienced.
She also takes a small number of selected commissions for collectors seeking a personal artwork rooted in her visual language.
